41 Dade Schools in State's Top Ranks

Miami-Dade County had 41 schools on a list of the state's top high-performing schools, including the No. 1 middle school in Florida and several top-10 finishers.

The rankings, released Friday by the state Depertment of Education, were based on the number of points earned on school-grade criteria.

"I commend these schools for the remarkable job of helping students improve their core academic skills," Education Commissioner John Winn said in a released statement.

The tax-financed schools were divided in four groups. The Miami-Dade schools, and their statewide rankings for 2005-06, included:

  • Elementary: Twin Lakes (8), Renaissance Charter (17), Royal Palm (30), Calusa (37), Southside (45), Mater Academy East Charter (48), F.C. Martin (48), Coral Park (69), Devon Aire (69), South Miami (72), Christina M. Eve (72), Coral Reef (89) and Cypress (97).
  • Middle: G.W Carver (1), Herbert Ammons (3), Pinecrest Academy Charter (7), Palmetto (36), Doral Academy Charter (36), Somerset Academy Charter (42), Southwood (63) and Arvida (74).
  • Senior High: MAST (4), New World School of the Arts (7), DASH (9), Coral Reef (11) and International Studies Charter (38).
  • Combination: Key Biscayne K-8 Center (3), Aventura City of Excellence School (6), Ruth K. Broad-Bay Harbor Elementary (8), North Beach Elementary (12), Bob Graham Education Center (18), Jane S. Roberts K-8 Center (19), Doctors Charter of Miami Shores (20), Kenwood K-8 Center (22), Henry S. West Laboratory School (27), Youth Co-Op Charter (28), Doral Middle (32), Everglades K-8 Center (32), Coral Way K-8 Center (34), Treasure Island Elementary (37) and Norwood Elementary (48).
