SIPA's successful leadership in parental and educational involvement has been proven by its continued growth and many accomplishments.
The SIPA Board has participated in meetings with DCPS officials and the Ministry of Education of Spain. This ongoing process is necessary to assure the smooth continuation of the program from first through twelfth grade.
Provided a $500 academic scholarship to the top IS graduating Senior at The Charter IS HS. Provided monetary awards to students for writing, art, and cooking contests during Hispanic Heritage Month. Underwrote activities for Mini Concurso at Carver Middle.
Organized GRAN PAELLA, a festive dinner and silent auction, which is our annual fundraiser. Students from the Carver Middle School Spanish IS Program conducted a fabulous presentation at Gran Paella. SIPA hosted TAPAS, an informal cocktail party welcoming incoming parents to the program.
Organized trip to Spain for 5th grade students and provided scholarships to qualifying participants.
Provided scholarship money to 5th grade students for the trip to St. Augustine and for the trip to Spain.
Provided discretionary funds to each Spanish IS teacher for expenses to enrich their teaching environment.
Provided classroom material to all schools, such as maps, dictionaries, Spanish National Geographic, "Scholastic News" in Spanish, and novels. Purchased tape recording equipment for Carver Middle AP students. These materials are funded from our fundraising efforts for academic enhancement.
Provided funds for students to attend Spanish theatre performance of Don Quixote, Flamenco Ballet, and the Hispanic Festival. Assisted in funding Hispanic Heritage events at the schools, as well as a performance by T eatro A vante at Sunset. Coral Way and Sunset students were treated to a walking tour of significant Miami sites visited a traditional Spanish restaurant and the Cuba Nostalgia event. The children experienced the truly Spanish treat of a TUNA performance, as well as a field trip to Vizcaya. Fifth graders enjoyed a special "Day in Spain" at the Spanish Monastery.
Setup meetings with guest speakers to inform parents on issues relating to the program. Provided a forum for questions and answers with Lead Teachers, parents and School Board Administrators.
